Modernising seven major financial applications within 12 months.

A multi-application modernisation programme combining hands-on technical leadership, payment delivery, security remediation, coordinated testing, and controlled release across important university services.

Context

Established university finance services with connected responsibilities

Manchester Metropolitan University depended on a group of established SAP and Java-connected applications spanning procurement, accommodation, tuition-fee billing, invoicing, fines, and online payments.

The publicly recorded payments estate included Pay Online and a PaperCut print-payment journey. The approved Flywire integration claim relates specifically to Pay Online.

Challenge

Modernisation had to move several teams and live services together

The estate required modernisation, secure delivery, payment-platform improvement, coordinated testing, and clear implementation evidence across multiple technical and business teams.

Progress had to account for application, infrastructure, database, cybersecurity, SAP, Oracle, and operational dependencies rather than treating each application as an isolated rewrite.

Contribution

End-to-end technical delivery across seven applications

  • Led the end-to-end modernisation of seven major financial applications within 12 months.
  • Contributed to Flywire payment-gateway integration into Pay Online and related payment journeys.
  • Supported callback handling, discovery, design, development, testing, implementation, and production support.
  • Coordinated application, infrastructure, database, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders.
  • Produced implementation, release, rollback, and governance artefacts where required.
  • Delivered security remediation and supported SAP, Oracle, and internal university platform integrations.

Outcome

A stronger and more maintainable financial-application estate

The programme left clearer delivery evidence, reduced avoidable operational risk, and greater confidence in changes to important university services.
